When you have a listenership the size of the audience that Tim Ferriss has for his podcast, you listen to them. A blog he recently posted made formal his decision to no longer have listener support through donations. Instead he said that he would stick with revenue generated by running ads in his show. Interestingly, Ferriss had polled people before launching the fan-supported model and almost three quarters of the 18 thousand respondents said they wouldn’t donate, yet he did it anyway. The exercise also helped reveal that his listeners not only don’t mind the ads he runs, but trust him as having vetted the companies, products, and services he does include as sponsors. While you might not have the audience size that Ferriss does, keep this experiment in mind before you put all your eggs in the Patreon basket.
